Autostack: Dollar cost averaging (DCA) into Bitcoin
By Stacked
Updated August 2026
What Autostack is
Autostack schedules automatic, recurring Bitcoin buys from your bank account – also called DCA (dollar cost averaging). Instead of trying to time the market, you buy the same amount on a schedule you set, and let the average work itself out over time. Set it up once and it runs on its own.
Before you start
You'll need:
- A verified Stacked account.
- 2FA or a passkey enabled on your account.
- A bank account connected via Akahu – open banking, so funds are debited straight from your bank, not a card.
Set up an Autostack
- Go to Autostack and start a new one.
- Enter your amount in NZD. There's a minimum amount, shown on screen when you set it up.
- Choose your frequency: daily, weekly (pick a weekday), or monthly (pick a day from 1–31). If you pick the 29th, 30th, or 31st, some shorter months don't have that day, so that month's buy may be skipped.
- Choose the bank account to fund it from.
- Choose where your Bitcoin goes (see below).
- Confirm with 2FA – an authenticator code or a passkey.
Where your Bitcoin goes
Send each Autostack buy to:
- A Lightning address.
- Your Stacked Wallet.
- An external Bitcoin address – paste in any on-chain address.
On-chain buys have a $50 minimum. For anything under $500, we recommend sending to a Lightning address or your Stacked Wallet instead – on small, frequent on-chain buys, network fees eat a bigger share of what you're actually buying.
The first time you send to a new address, you'll confirm whether it's yours or belongs to someone else – a quick step we ask for on any new receiving address.
When your buys run
Each Autostack buy runs at around 5pm NZT on its scheduled day, and your bank account is debited at the same time.
Manage your Autostack plans
Your Autostack plans are grouped into Active and Paused. From either tab, you can:
- Edit a live plan – change the amount, frequency, bank account, or destination.
- Pause it at any time.
- Restart a paused plan.
Editing and restarting need a quick 2FA confirm; pausing doesn't. Each plan shows its own running total – sats stacked so far, and how it's tracking.
Fees
Each buy carries the standard Stacked fee plus your bank's payment fee. On-chain buys also carry the Bitcoin network fee. See our fees page for current rates.
